The game:

In the heart of a rural town, a strange mushroom begins to bloom, consuming and spreading over everything in its way. At first, it's only small animals that want to eat the mushroom, but as it continues to grow, the residents of the town begin to take notice - and resist.

You play as this mushroom, and to win, you must grow at least 40 ft. tall. Extend your mycelia to devour nearby structures and grow, while fending off aggressors with your toxic spores.

This was my entry for the 2024 GMTK Game Jam, "Built to Scale". It has since received a quality of life update, but the original jam submission can still be found in the download section below.

Controls:

  • Left click (click or hold): Fire a pellet of spores to damage creatures.
  • Right click (hold): Extend your mycelia outward. If they come into contact with a wooden object, they will latch on and damage the object until it is destroyed or you release the button. Destroy objects this way to grow larger. Note: you cannot fire spores while reaching with mycelia, so plan accordingly!
  • Escape: Pause or unpause the game.

Saw it played on the GMTK GameJam stream and I wanted to try it for myself! Very fun! Great concept, great execution, had a great time playing it!
My biggest critique is that I wish it was longer! I wanna take over the world >:)

Thank you very much!

Possibly a bug but I was almost at 40.00 feet when the game wouldn't let me shoot anymore. Very fun game non the less

Sorry for the bug - a few people have run into that. I'm very glad you still had fun though!

Are you planning to keep working on the game?

Yes! I'd like to at least fix up the bugs and possibly add a few new upgrades once the jam is over.
